What you’ll do

The Responsible Sourcing Specialist drives Woolworths' sustainability agenda by safeguarding human rights in the horticulture supply chain.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Due Diligence and Compliance: Serve as a Responsible Sourcing (RS) partner to embed and monitor human rights due diligence in the Fruit & Veg supply chain, and ensure trade partners maintain RS compliance.

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct periodic gap analyses of human rights due diligence components and monitor changes over time.

  • Supplier Support and Remediation: Support suppliers in addressing non-conformance issues and complex human rights risks (such as ethical migrant worker recruitment), and lead corrective action and remediation efforts.

  • Engagement and Communication: Engage with relevant internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to build strong relationships and deepen the understanding of human rights and RS requirements.

  • Strategy and Reporting: Lead the strategy development for the continued roll-out of the RS cycle in the supply chain, while executing system/data management protocols and providing required due diligence reporting.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience & Knowledge: Knowledge of the Australian Horticulture industry. An ideal candidate would have experience with responsible sourcing/human rights in the horticulture context, including compliance, and/or social auditing, and familiarity with Australian contextual issues such as the PALM scheme.

  • Risk & Strategy: Experience identifying human rights trends, to assess risks and opportunities for Woolworths and to develop/adapt business responses.

  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to work with internal stakeholders (commercial, legal, buyers) to advise on social compliance due diligence results, manage corrective actions, and engage effectively with all stakeholders. A commercial mindset is important for this role.

  • Audit & Compliance Schemes: Knowledge of third-party certifiers or audit schemes, such as Sedex/Fair Farms, is preferable.

  • Integrity & Ethics: Acts ethically, with integrity, and appropriate independence, prioritizing the organization's interests.

  • Personal Acumen: Possesses emotional intelligence, good business instinct and acumen, the ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and holds a Degree in human rights, a social discipline, law, or related field. Candidates with a career and/or academic background in Horticulture would also be considered.
