Category Manager - Own Brand Stationery, Home Office & Craft

What you’ll do

The Category Manager for Own Brand brings the BIG W Strategy to life by delivering the Category Strategy to create the best range and create value for our customers to maximise sales, profit and customer satisfaction. A key part of this role will be to deliver product innovation and new ranges which meet customer needs where we want to accelerate our pipeline of own brand product in a meaningful way. This role also delivers on partnering with new and existing partners, unlocking new product opportunities to transform the BIGW business.


  • Supporting the Senior Category Manager - Own Brand, lead the end-to-end development within our own brand range, with a focus on innovation, new segments and products.

  • Partnering within the Commercial team to build the own brand category strategy across Stationery, Craft and Home office, using customer insights and market data to support the BIG W Strategy.

  • Delivering key product and innovation pipelines by partnering with Brandco, BWA, QA and supplier partners, ensuring delivery of the best product at the best unit price, supporting business goals, 2030 sustainability targets, while supporting execution in stores and DCs.

  • Support category range review and end of season review, alongside Design, recommending new products and segments in line with the category strategy, curation of existing options, vendor and MOQ review. 

  • Identify range gaps and bring products to market in line with the critical path and ensuring all required NPD steps are followed. Ranges will also be developed in an accelerated timeline to critical path.

  • Using expert product development knowledge, supplier negotiation and sourcing skills to make clear recommendations and gain buy-in from relevant cross functional teams.


What you’ll bring

  • 5 years previous experience as a commercial retail buyer in Stationery, Home Office or Craft, successfully trading a sizeable category in terms of $ and options

  • Strong partnering and influencing skills with proven experience of building strong relationships to deliver a point of difference

  • Proven experience of building strong relationships to deliver a point of difference. 

  • Proven experience working towards KIPs
