The purpose of the wiqNZ team is to unlock the power of data to imagine retail, which contributes to making Kiwis’ lives a little better every day. We work closely with all WWNZ business units, as well as with the broader WIQ team.
As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, you will be a critical member of our team, responsible for the creation of BI ‘data products’ that transform complex data into actionable intelligence that drives business growth and efficiency. You will leverage your technical expertise and best practice in Business Intelligence (BI) to directly contribute to building BI tools and reporting solutions, ensuring they are architecturally flexible enough to adapt to changing business needs and Group best practices (i.e. re-usable modular component design).
Specifically, the role will see you:
- Translate Business Acumen into BI Outcomes: Collaborate with stakeholders to design and maintain effective BI solutions, ensuring data accuracy and integrity with a user-first mindset. Work with AU/NZ Engineers and Analysts to align datasets and metrics with Group and NZ standards.
- Analyse Complex Data: Interpret complex datasets to identify key trends and actionable insights that drive strategic decisions and improve operational efficiency. Apply strong business acumen in grocery retail to leverage data for achieving business objectives.
- Deliver High Quality, User-Friendly Reporting Experiences: Design, develop, and maintain interactive reports, dashboards, and self-service solutions, primarily sourcing data from Google Cloud Platform. Ensure data accuracy and quality, and deliver BI tools that are accurate, timely, relevant, intuitive, engaging, and drive business decisions.
- Drive Emerging Tech & Ways of Working Transition Support: Champion BI innovation through automation and Generative AI, aligning with Group integrations and foundational analytics assets. Lead change by embedding new reports and tools, challenging the status quo, and ensuring consistency with Group-first metrics. Continuously improve capabilities by staying abreast of advancements in BI, data analytics, and GenAI. Promote data democratisation by developing self-service analytics and training non-analytics teams.
- Effective Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management: Collaborate with business operational teams and senior leadership to drive process improvements and manage change, ensuring a Group approach where applicable. Review report usage, manage transitions, and provide SME servicing to promote standardised tools. Champion the adoption of new self-serve BI tools.
- High-Performance BI Culture: Role model new BI approaches, communicate best practice design for dashboards and self-service tools, and foster a collaborative team environment. Maintain a motivated mindset in a fast-paced environment and embody Woolworths Way of Working and company values.

Your focus is to drive step-change in Business Intelligence ‘data products’ and capabilities, focusing on delivering high-value reporting outcomes that support WWNZ transformation. This is a critical role as the business more greatly integrates its Group functions and embraces AI technologies and self-service.
To be successful in this position, you will have:
- Extensive BI/Data Analytics Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience delivering Business Intelligence solutions in a BI or data analytics role.
- BI Tool Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in industry-standard BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- SQL Skills: Expert-level SQL skills for data querying and manipulation. Familiarity with statistical analysis and programming languages such as Python or R is a plus.
- Cloud Platform Proficiency: Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as GCP, Azure, or AWS.
- Data Governance Knowledge: Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices related to data quality, security, and accessibility.
- AI Curiosity: Experience working with or a strong understanding/curiosity of Generative AI concepts and its potential applications in Business Intelligence. Familiarity with prompt engineering and leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) for data analysis and reporting is a plus.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Commercial Acumen and Communication: Strong commercial experience with proven ability to present insights and recommendations to stakeholders at various levels.
- Mindset: A proactive and innovative mindset with a passion for leveraging data to drive business value. Proactive and results-oriented with a strong desire to drive continuous improvement.
