The Opportunity

The Staff Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager, based out of Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne working 3 days in the state office. This is a strategic and technical leadership role where you’ll influence the design, direction and delivery of W Digital Last Mile delivery platform


What you’ll do

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex and high-impact software

  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, product managers, UX/UI designers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into exceptional user experiences

  • Design and implement robust, secure, scalable, maintainable, highly observable, and high-performing software solutions, adhering to best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles

  • Champion code quality, maintainability, and testability through code reviews, automated testing, and the adoption of best practices

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, champion observability and contribute to technical debt backlog for prioritisation

  • Practice and cultivate a pragmatic engineering mindset to experiment, iterate and prototype features rapidly whilst constantly delivering customer value

  • Devops mindset with full end to end ownership

  • Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar engineering across teams

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make high-impact technical decisions


What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years’ experience in building microservices for large scale enterprises using .NET (preferred), Nodejs or Java

  • Strong programming foundations and in-depth understanding of SOLID principles and their application, unit testing, CI/CD

  • Deep understanding and experience in event based architectures

  • Cloud-native mindset with hands-on experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure (preferred) 

  • Strong knowledge of security, monitoring, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g Terraform)

  • Strong experience working and shaping agile teams and methodologies

  • Strong communication and team skills and a can-do attitude

  • A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and leading large-scale technical initiatives
