The Opportunity

The Category Specialist - Supply Chain - Transportation roles are responsible for supporting the portfolio team in meeting time sensitive deliverables across the Procurement lifecycle. You will evolve your understanding of the tools and processes which are key to ensuring our business stakeholder expectations are met. Your keen interest and expert knowledge in supply chains, B2B & B2C transportation, fleet management and associated categories will be advantageous to understanding the subject matter of supplier interactions you participate in and documents you prepare.

The categories you will support and manage are last mile deliveries, fleet sourcing, management and operations, as well as associated services like repairs & maintenance, truck washing, livery, tyres, refrigeration, Tool of Trade vehicles, Ocean Freight, Freight Forwarding, Fuel and Pallets.These categories have depth and breadth and encompass all our leading brand banners.

In this role, you will balance the business objectives, mitigate risk, and work closely with various parts of the business including Human Rights, Sustainability, Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance teams, Group Replenishment, EcomX, Supply Chain and Store Operations for the best fit approach adhering to procurement policies. 


What you’ll do

  • Sourcing and Contract Leadership: Lead the administration, development, and execution of the end-to-end Contract Management Process and support/lead RFx programs.
  • Strategic Deliverable Creation: Coordinate, create, and prepare strategic documents like Sourcing Plans and Recommendation Packs.
  • Vendor Performance Management: Develop, implement, and manage supplier performance metrics and reporting (Supplier Relationship Management).
  • Negotiation Support: Actively support contract negotiations, manage action logs, and ensure execution deadlines are met.
  • Data-Driven Category Strategy: Conduct robust data analysis (including market analysis and risk analysis) to identify fact-driven opportunities and inform category strategies.
  • Stakeholder Influence & Prioritisation: Understand, prioritise, and manage procurement activities while influencing business partners to achieve desired outcomes.


What you’ll bring

  • Experience & Education: 3–5 years of professional experience in roles like Consulting, Supply Chain, Procurement, or Engineering, with a preference for a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Commerce, Engineering, Supply Chain).
  • Strategic Communication: Proven ability to create, prepare, and deliver high-quality presentation packs that clearly communicate insights and key messages to senior audiences.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong commercial appreciation, including an understanding of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles and effective value levers.
  • Category Management Knowledge: Sound appreciation of Category Management principles and processes, particularly in Supply Chain and Transportation categories (preferred).
  • Attention to Detail & Legal: Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, especially concerning contract reviews and analysis preparation, coupled with an understanding of (or interest in developing skills in) contract law.
  • Personal Attributes: Autonomous, proactive, outcome-focused mindset with a strong drive for continuous improvement and excellent written/verbal communication skills.
