What you'll do | Hei mahi

The role of an Assistant Category Manager is to assist the Category Manager to deliver a range that is better for

customers, simple to execute and enhances the customer perception of our value, quality & range. By doing so

delivering to target and sales, profit, market share & voice of customer objectives. The primary role of the ACM is to

run an effective Promotional Program that delivers our sales, profit and market share results.


  • Know and understand my category in detail including product performance, market share, competitors, price and promotion, suppliers, category trends and customer insight
  •  Assist the CM to deliver an optimum range via a planned review schedule offering choice that is store tailored, reflective of the category roles, incorporating changing customer trends and utilising focused customer insight
  • Promotional effectiveness - manage a competitive and sustainable program
  • Be accountable for the Sales and Profit performance of their category
  • Know and understand their category in detail including product performance, market share, competitors, price and promotion, suppliers, category trends and customer insight
  •  ACMs roles supporting categories which are highly “promoted” will typically take full accountability for the planning, negotiation and execution of the total promotional strategy.


What you’ll

This role will suit someone with some retail based experience, ideally from within FMCG and who will have a desire to hit the ground running. You will have good commercial acumen and previous experience driving new or challenged business initiatives within Woolworths with a proven track record of engaging and influencing key stakeholders of the business.


Some of your new responsibilities will be:

  • Delivering customer focused strategy through effective management of product, price, promotion and placement
  • Maintaining awareness of product trends, availability, and customer preferences
  • Understanding of buying and selling patterns, impacts on the category
  • Maintaining high level relationships with vendors and partners
  • Collaborating across functions to ensure efficient, on time delivery of products
  • Developing longer-term plans and recommendations across products/categories
  • Managing and controlling sales to budget
  • Assist in Category reviews and buying projects
