As a Strategic Sourcing Manager - Fresh, you’ll be responsible for growing the profitable sales of the Own and Exclusive Brand range by delivering highly competitive, differentiated products. This role is critical to achieving our strategic ambitions in the fresh segment of our business.


The primary role is to meet agreed Fresh profit goals by securing competitive Own & Exclusive product COGs. This involves working with Fresh Category Managers, Product Development, and others to balance COGs and quality during contract negotiations. Also, you must find and develop suitable suppliers, maintaining strong relationships to stay informed on market trends, technology, products, and services.


Responsibilities include:

  • Drive Commercial Success: Strategically negotiate COGS reductions and manage contracts for a portfolio with over $100m in annual sales, delivering significant bottom-line impact.
  • Be Customer Obsessed: Utilise deep customer insights and data to align your sourcing strategy with the Category Manager, ensuring we offer the best products to our customers.
  • Forge Powerful Partnerships: Build and nurture new and existing supplier relationships, including developing detailed Joint Business Plans (JBPs), to secure a long-term competitive advantage.
  • Shape the Fresh Offer: Identify, review, and implement innovative supplier strategies to create a competitive product portfolio that maintains and grows our market share.
  • Tap into Trans-Tasman Innovation: Be embedded in the Australian NPD (New Product Development) process to 'Tag-on' exciting opportunities and bring them to the New Zealand market.
  • Be a Loss Prevention Champion: Take accountability for managing and minimising shrinkage (Dumps, Clearance, Out of Code, etc.) by identifying root causes and implementing effective actions.
  • Own the Performance: Be accountable for the overall commercial performance of your fresh categories, driving growth and ensuring supplier compliance and high standards.
