The Opportunity 


The Accountants responsibility of this role is to review, investigate and provide insights on the Imports business unit overhead position and maintain balance sheet integrity of the Import accounts. This includes preparing balance sheet reconciliations, managing Business Unit queries, performing User Acceptance Testing (UAT), closing Business Unit monthly results, preparing Financial Statement Analysis notes for HY and FY as well as supporting the wider team in driving continuous improvements across all aspects of the team’s performance.


What you'll do


  • Support timely and insightful reporting of the Import overhead position and selected balance sheet accounts to the business unit finance teams.

  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are prepared effectively in line with the Balance Sheet Reconciliation Guidelines, taking full ownership of quality and timeliness of completion.
  • End to end process ownership of tasks that have been assigned accountable for ensuring completion by set deadlines - including completion of required journal entries or adjustments as required.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships through attendance of regular meetings / engagement sessions which includes active participation to resolve any ongoing issues and collaborating to improve and add value to the business and FSS
  • Assist with the preparation of notes to the Woolworths Financial Statements - these are performed half yearly with soft and hard close deliverables and timelines.
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing when required for changes to the System Environment that impact the team.
  • Drive initiatives and strategies for continual improvement of processes in area of responsibility - including where impacts or changes may be required across other team.


What you'll bring


  • You will have a finance related degree with a CA or CPA qualification (or studying towards)
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, exposure in retail/large corporate will be advantageous
  • Expertise in reconciling complex accounts, including bank statements, general ledger accounts, and intercompany transactions.
  • Understanding and practical application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Strong experience using financial systems in a commercial environment e.g. Google Suite, SAP, BPC, GCP and Excel
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide insights for decision-making.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment. 
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong business partnering skills with an ability to grow and establish new or extended customer base.
