The Opportunity


This role represents a unique opportunity for a media and corporate affairs professional with at least 8 years experience to play a key role within the Group’s Newsroom function and work across the the media and communications needs of


Australia’s largest retailer. This role is primarily focused in the Newsroom capability on supportingthe Group’s media response across a range of announcements and media engagements. It supports the Group Communications leadership in providingcounsel to key stakeholders across the Group and assists with oversight of day-to-day media enquiries managed by the team.  

 

What you'll do


  • Become a trusted partner across the business and within Group Communications- by providing strategic communications advice and outstanding tactical delivery on short and long term reputation challenges and opportunities - with a core focus, but not limited to, media engagement. 
  • Foster open, responsive and transparent relationship with media on proactive announcements to deliver positive earned outcomes 
  • Be a trusted support to the Group Communications leadership, particularly the Head of Media Relations and Head of Newsroom  providing insights and advice to support the delivery of plans for the wider business
  • Collaborate with other functions within the Group Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability function (internal communications, Government Relations, Content & Events, supplier engagement and Sustainability)  to ensure end to end alignment ofactivity and consistency of messaging with  all stakeholders
  • Support the growth and development of team members while providing guidance and oversight on their work


What you'll bring


  • Extensive experience in Media Relations and Corporate Affairs and ideally understanding and experience in Internal and supplier communications.
  • Experience working in a high demanding in-house media press office, with ongoing shifting priorities
  • Experience responding to issues and crisis situations
  • Pitching and securing positive media coverage
  • Developing short, medium and long term strategic communications plans in support of business initiatives or in response to issues 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
